PERU 2017-Post 10. The English Teachers

Friday July 7

In the evening we taxied down town, away from the touristy historic centre to the more typical part of Cusco City to visit some friends who had invited us come and observe a different side of Cusco.  This is the view from the roof of their apartment.

And this is Desiree and Kael, a couple of pioneers from Melbourne Australia who have made their home here in Cusco and are supporting themselves as part-time English teachers.

The English teaching institute,
ICPNA, or Instituto Cultural Peruano North America.  Stepping into this 21st Century glass box school is like stepping into a different world.

Before racing off to his next class, Kael shows me his lesson plan. Impressive!

Alexandra sat in on a class with Desiree.

And I sat in on a class with one of their fellow teachers. A major focus of teaching English is to minimise teacher talking time and maximise student talking time as seen here by having students discuss topics in pairs.

And who do we have here, demonstrating her potential as an English teacher?

As evening falls, the English classes continue and we head home in a local bus.
